Roč. 16, č. 1 (2024), s. 140-162.This study investigates the translation of the English swearword “fuck” and its variants in the Slovak subtitles for the American television series Yellowjackets. Drawing from a corpus of 534 coupled pairs in which the swearword was used, the research examines translation strategies adopted by six translators to explore variations in expressiveness and the use of highly offensive lexis. The analysis shows rather heterogenous approach towards the treatment of offensive language and inconsistency in expressiveness not only between translators but also across different episodes of the series.
