Abstrakt
Integration, which refers to migration, is a process in which differences between migrants and the rest of society are eliminated to a certain extent. This process is by no means one-way. On the contrary, it is multidimensional and includes all actors. All local actors can be involved in community protection – refugees, local and state institutions, non-profit and community organisations, and volunteers. Their common goal is to ensure respect for human and refugee rights and refugees’ access to information and services, significantly strengthening their self-sufficiency and independence. The involvement of Ukrainian people already living in the countries is crucial for the integration process. For many people from Ukraine, social networks play a crucial role in getting and keeping in touch with others.
The chapter analyses the integration of Ukrainian refugees with local communities, preventing their closure in their milieu and encouraging their participation in the life of local communities. It explores the involvement of local organisations and pre-war migrants in pro-integration and support initiatives. It also focuses on initiatives based on community work as a model for integrating Ukrainian refugees in V4 countries.
