| dc.description.abstract | This contrastively constructed paper aims to present the genre composition of the rather inconspicuous, in its time attractively (proto-digitally) prepared “first post-revolutionary samizdat” Hlas kotolne (The Voice of the Boiler Room) and to indicate its value inspirations for today’s professional and civic internet journalism. Regarding genre representation, wide-ranging content, and pragmalinguistic rendering of publishing intentions, Hlas kotolne exposed itself as a persiflage, low-circulation, low-cost periodical. The thought-provoking observations, actions, and statements of chamber-unengaged non-journalists, professionally unorganized contributors – enthusiasts of allusive, non-schematic Slovak writing in the aftermath of the fresh social change from December 1989 to 1992 were disseminated in an activist manner, yet without internet support, through unofficial, group and community contacts. This paper focuses on the genre representation in the periodical, emphasizing selected genre characteristics – theme, function, composition, form, and linguistic-stylistic inventory. The activated genres are stratified according to the dominant genre criteria and their expected and/or anticipated importance or value in the service of the edition under study into central and peripheral circuits. The findings and insights gained by analyzing the databank of copies of Hlas kotolne published during its short existence have resulted in the outline of value contours that had been more or less developed and should or could have been effectively applied in the Internet journalism of the first quarter of the 21st century. | |
