The detention and restriction of a suspect's personal liberty is one of the most radical interferences into the individual's personal freedom. It is a frequently used institution in police practice. However, the current legislation causes inconsistencies in the procedures of individual departments of the Police Force. Application issues may ultimately be resolved only through an adequate amendment of the criminal procedural provisions.
