The challenges and risks of family upbringing at the turn of the third millennium as a result of the expanding virtual threats to children and youth (Slovak Republic)
(Wydawnictwo naukowe akademii WSB : Dąbrowa Górnicza, 2026) Dulovics, Mário
The intensive development of information and communication technology at the turn of the 21st century has impacted all areas of social life including the family environment. In the current context of family upbringing, concepts such as digital parenting or parental mediation of children’s internet use and contemporary technology are often discussed; their importance is rising along with the expanding phenomenon of online risk behaviour among children and youth. This study aims to reflect the changes in the family upbringing in the context of the virtual threats to children and youth. It presents the results of empirical research conducted in 2022, which involved 2,768 primary school students (grades 6 to 9), focused on the prevalence of selected forms of online risk behaviour (cyber-bullying, excessive internet use, sexting, and FOMO). The findings point out that family upbringing requires updating and emphasize its prevention potential.

The influence of parents on the body image and mental health of their children
(Wydawnictwo naukowe akademii WSB : Dąbrowa Górnicza, 2026) Kollárová, Soňa
Parents have a huge responsibility to create a positive environment for their children in which they feel comfortable in their own skin. Research by experts at the national or international level points to a trend of increasing negative body image among children and youth, as well as changes in the educational activities of parents. Despite this, not enough attention is paid to the family in the context of raising a positive body image and self-acceptance. The priority of protecting children and youth from negative influences that threaten their self-image and mental health is prevention, and the family plays a key role in it.

Enhancing cognitive skills: The impact of logic games on memory and self-efficacy in adults
(Gate Association for Teaching and Education : Bazilej, 2026) Doktorová, Dominika; Šolcová, Jana; Tokovská, Miroslava
This study examined the cognitive benefits of regular logical game play by comparing long-term memory performance and self-efficacy levels between experienced players who regularly play logic games and the general population. The research employed a quantitative approach with N = 60 participants, equally divided into a regular playing group (N = 30), who regularly play logic games and a general population comparison group (N = 30). Data collection involved both a production experiment to assess long-term memory capabilities and standardized self-efficacy measurement using the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES). Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference (p = 0.000) favoring the logic game players in terms of long-term memory performance, while no significant differences emerged between groups regarding self-efficacy levels. These findings suggest that incorporating logic games into educational frameworks as play-based learning, or utilizing it as a preventive intervention against cognitive impairment in adults, offers measurable cognitive benefits and supports healthy aging initiatives.

Syndróm vyhorenia u pomáhajúcich pracovníkov z perspektívy psychoanalýzy
(Verbum - vydavateľstvo KU : Ružomberok, 2026) Bambúch, Filip
This scientific article explores burnout syndrome in helping professionals, offering a profound psychoanalytic perspective on its aetiology, manifestations, and intervention possibilities. It analyzes the key dimensions of burnout – emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment – through the lens of psychoanalytic concepts such as the dynamics of the ego, id, and superego, defence mechanisms, the influence of early experiences and object relations, as well as the phenomena of transference and countertransference. The aim is to move beyond a descriptive understanding of the syndrome and to uncover the unconscious psychological processes that contribute to its onset and persistence in the context of demanding helping professions.

Využitie pedagogickej diagnostiky na hodinách matematiky na primárnom stupni vzdelávania
(Verbum - vydavateľstvo KU : Ružomberok, 2026) Semričová, Zuzana
The aim of the paper is to analyse and develop the possibilities of using pedagogical diagnostics in mathematics lessons at the primary level of education, with a special emphasis on the diagnostics of social relations between pupils. Pedagogical diagnostics is traditionally associated primarily with the assessment of knowledge and skills, but its use in examining interpersonal ties, the pupil's position in a group and his social adaptation is equally important. Mathematics, although often perceived as a subject oriented mainly towards the development of logical and numerical thinking, offers, thanks to specific methodologies – primarily the Hejny´s method and the use of Dienes's logical blocks – space for observing children's social behaviour, cooperation, preferences and emotional expressions. The article presents the theoretical foundations of pedagogical diagnostics, the characteristics of selected environments of the Hejny´s method (Bus, Children's Park, Family) and the application of Dienes's logical block in the process of learning about social relations.

From recipients to co-creators: Rural voices in e-service-learning course design
(Universidad Internacional de la Rioja : Logrono, 2026) Brozmanová Gregorová, Alžbeta; Culcasi, Irene; Mikelic Preradovic, Nives; Paz-Lourido, Berta; Laven, Rolf; Navarro, Joan; Paudel, Flourentine; Heinzová, Zuzana
Introduction: Digital technologies in service-learning enable the development of this pedagogical approach in contexts such as rural areas, giving rise to distinctive community–campus relationships in higher education. Objective: To identify perceptions and considerations regarding the co-creation process in virtual service-learning (e-SL) between universities and rural partners, focusing on their characteristics, interactions, and functioning. Method: Exploratory qualitative research based on an ethnomethodological approach, carried out through semi-structured, in-depth interviews. The purposive sample consisted of 16 participants: 8 university teachers and 8 rural community partners from Italy, Croatia, Spain, Austria, and Slovakia, all with experience in virtual service-learning courses. The interviews explored co-creation dynamics, roles, benefits, challenges, digital contexts, power dynamics, and sustainability, and were analysed using thematic analysis. Results: The initial proposal for the design of e-SL courses involving rural participation often began informally through personal networks and evolved into structured processes based on shared decision-making, joint planning, and needs assessment. Benefits included the empowerment of community voices, the alignment of course content with community needs, the revitalisation of curricula, and enhanced university–community collaboration. Challenges included digital access, time constraints, and communication barriers. Ownership was distributed through shared decision-making, fostering trust and mutual respect. Discussion: The findings emphasise reciprocal relationships, participatory behaviours, and the possibilities afforded by digital platforms. Co-creation in e-SL was regarded as a transformative practice, shifting epistemic authority toward a horizontal, relational, and reciprocal process. The sustainability of the process relies on ongoing commitment, trust, and technological infrastructure, aligning with theoretical models of co-creation and promoting long-term impact in the community. Conclusions: e-SL co-creation enhances relevance and impact, both in learning and in rural development. It has the potential to foster rural engagement, enrich student learning, and align projects with local priorities. Digital platforms facilitate collaboration but may introduce barriers that need to be overcome to ensure sustainability.

Self-perceived moral competence among healthcare students in Slovakia: a cross-sectional study
(BioMed Central : Londýn, 2026) Dimunová, Lucia; Štefková, Gabriela; Kaliský, Ján; Kalakay, Radoslav; Więch, Paweł; Bazaliński, Dariusz; Miškárová, Simona; Rimárová, Kvetoslava
Background: The ability to provide ethical and effective care depends on healthcare professionals possessing certain moral competence level. Moral development captures the progressive enhancement of one’s moral competence, enabling informed and principled decision-making, while ethical development focuses on the acquisition and implementation of ethical knowledge and standards. The Moral Competence Test measure including ethical proficiency, moral reasoning, and the ability to navigate ethical decisions make sound moral judgments, and act in accordance with established ethical principles. The assessment and development of these attributes are imperative for optimizing healthcare outcomes and mitigating ethical conflicts. Aim: This study aimed to examine the relationship between moral competence levels and selected variables - namely gender, field of study, and year of study – among healthcare students in Slovakia. Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive, and comparative design was used to investigate moral competence involving healthcare students, Faculty of Medicine in Slovakia. The study adhered to the STROBE checklist, and data were collected using the Moral Competence Test. Descriptive and inductive statistics were conducted using the Mann-Whitney U test and the Kruskal-Wallis test to examine differences between variables. To assess the distribution of the C-score and guide statistical analysis, both the Shapiro-Wilk and Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests for normality were applied. A significance level of p < 0.05 was used for all analyses. IBM SPSS Statistics version 25.0 was used for data processing. Results: The primary outcome of moral competence is the C-score, which was at a medium level (16.72 ± 12.54) for all students enrolled in this study. The analysis revealed no statistically significant differences in moral competence based on study program. Of particular interest, a gradual decline in average C-scores was observed with increasing years of study: first-year students scored 17.71 ± 14.76, second-year students 16.67 ± 11.94, and third-year students 16.42 ± 13.27. A statistically significant difference (p = 0.020*) was identified between medical and healthcare students and those international medical students studying in English, with the latter group exhibiting higher, albeit still moderate, C-scores. Conclusions: These findings highlight the need for further research to explore the factors underlying higher moral competence scores among international students and the declining scores observed in Slovak students throughout their studies. We recommend revisiting academic curricula for two key reasons: first, to explore why first-year students demonstrate higher moral competence than those in their final year; and second, to promote the overall development of moral competence in future Slovak healthcare professionals.

Transforming social work for sustainability: Reframing social work through an eco-social lens
(Hill Publishing Group : New York, 2025) Jusko, Peter
The Eco-social transformation of social work represents a new approach responding to the deepening ecological crisis and growing social inequalities. While traditional social work has historically focused primarily on solving the problems of individuals and communities in a social context, the eco-social paradigm broadens this perspective to include an environmental dimension and the systemic interconnection between humans, society, and the natural environment. Based on a synthesis of international professional literature, this article analyses the theoretical foundations, value frameworks, and practical applications of eco-social work. It pays particular attention to the challenges faced by professionals in implementing these approaches in practice, as well as the possibilities for integrating them into education, policies, and professional standards. Eco-social work thus emerges as a potential tool for social transformation towards a more just and sustainable future.

Ježišova inšpirácia a autorita výrokov o sebe
(Trnavská univerzita v Trnave, 2025) Šoltésová, Viktória
The study focuses on the question of inspiration and authority in Jesus’ statements about himself in the Synoptic Gospels and in the Gospel according to John. The starting point is an analysis of Jesus’ prayer to the Father and the event of his baptism in the Jordan as key theological moments that shape his awareness of his mission and relationship with God. The author shows that it is precisely these experiences that are the source of Jesus’ spiritual authority and inspiration for his wisdom and self-referential statements. Jesus’ prayer is interpreted as a space of intense communication with the Father, from which springs the certainty of his identity and teaching, while baptism is understood as an initiatory event of public service, confirmed by the voice of God and the Holy Spirit. The study points to the internal unity between Jesus’ spiritual experience and the authoritative character of his statements, which the Gospels capture as an expression of God’s unique authority.

Exploring teachers’ self-directed learning: frequency, application, and professional experience differences
(Bazilej : Gate Association for Teaching and Education, 2026) Temiaková, Dominika; Pavlov, Ivan
Self-directed learning (SDL) has become an increasingly important component of teacher professional development, yet little is known about its patterns and challenges in the Slovak context. This study analysed SDL among 1,057 primary school teachers recruited through convenience sampling across Slovakia. Data were collected using a custom-designed 17-item questionnaire assessing frequency and sources of SDL, its application in practice, and perceived personal and motivational barriers. Reliability of the two multi-item scales was satisfactory (Cronbach’s α = .76–.79; McDonald’s ω = .75–.77). Descriptive statistics showed that 51.4% of respondents engaged in SDL frequently. The most valued sources were professional peer discussions and print/digital resources, while universities were rated the least relevant. Time emerged as the most demanding aspect of SDL. ANOVA showed no statistically significant overall differences in the frequency of self-directed learning across career stages. However, significant effects were found for the perceived usefulness of private providers and higher education institutions, as well as for barriers related to family time, financial burden, time management, and application of acquired knowledge. The findings demonstrate that SDL is a widespread practice among Slovak teachers, but its forms, perceived value, and barriers vary significantly with professional experience. These results highlight the need for differentiated support measures tailored to the career stage of educators.

Využívanie informačno-komunikačných technológii v starostlivosti o starších ľudí v kontexte neformálnej starostlivosti
(Magnanimitas : Hradec Králové, 2025) Šatara, Erik
Neformálna starostlivosť predstavuje významný pilier dlhodobej starostlivosti, no je spojená s vysokou mierou záťaže neformálnych opatrovateľov.

Community engagement as a renewed focus in higher education
(Belianum. Vydavateľstvo Univerzity Mateja Bela v Banskej Bystrici, 2025) Brozmanová Gregorová, Alžbeta; Chovancová, Katarína
The value of education, its essence and its scope, belongs to the spiritual identity of Europe, which for centuries has been linked to the awareness of certain qualities that enabled people to orient themselves in the world and interpret it in a certain way. A truly educated person was understood to be a thoughtful and prudent individual who was well aware of the ambiguities of the world and was accompanied by an unrelenting passion for seeking answers to crucial questions. Our present day differs from this traditional ethos of education primarily in its emphasis on the practical dimension of education and its professional application. Current discussions about education and schools are characterized by the fact that education is largely understood as a tool that should serve practical purposes.

Phenomenon of sharenting in Slovak parents
(Pedagoška obzorja : Novo mesto, 2025) Niklová, Miriam; Šimšíková, Annamária; Pánčiková, Slávka
The study focuses on the growing phenomenon of parent sharenting. The research data was obtained by using a structured interview method. The research population comprised 11 respondents, ten females and one male aged AM=35 years. All respondents are parents of children between 2 and 25 years old, who use social networking sites and have at least once shared content about their children or adolescents in an online social networking environment. The research is unique in its focus, as there is a lack of research on the topic in Slovakia. The results of our research have shown that the age of parents does not influence the frequency or form of sharenting. The research results suggest that parents are mainly guided by personal preferences when sharing content about their children. Most of the parents consider sharing content about their children on social media a natural part of their lives. We found that parents are concerned about not knowing who can access the shared content. The risks associated with sharing content about children on social media perceived by parents are mainly misuse of photos and child abduction. Most parents inform their children about what content they want to share about them.

Motivation for formal volunteering: Traditional and reflexive volunteering style
(Centrum spoločenských a psychologických vied SAV : Košice, 2025) Frgelcová, Estera
Background: The nature of volunteering is undergoing a transformation that has been described as a shift from a “traditional” collectivist to a “reflexive” individualistic style, which affects the motivational structure of volunteers. Objective: This research aims to analyse the motivation for formal volunteering in relation to the selected variables: frequency, length, and intensity of volunteering, membership in an organisation, within the framework of traditional and reflexive volunteering styles (Frič & Pospíšilová, 2010; Hustinx & Lammertyn, 2003). Methods: Quantitative research on motivation for formal volunteering is based on the multifactorial VFI/Volunteer Functions Inventory model, which measures six motivational factors: values, protection, social, career, understanding, and enhancement (Clary et al., 1998). Data collection was carried out in 2023 using a quota sampling method on a representative Slovak sample of 1,020 respondents, of whom 349 were involved in formal volunteering, and 671 were not. This research worked with a sample of 349 Slovak volunteers aged 18 to 82 (M = 47.23, SD = 15.37, women = 187, men = 162). Results: Descriptive results indicated the dominance of value motivation, followed by enhancement and understanding motivations. Correlational and comparative analyses of motivation to volunteer indicate several significant relationships. Volunteers who engage in the activity regularly (at least once a month) show significantly higher motivation in almost all areas: values, career, social, understanding, and enhancement. The intensity of involvement over the past four weeks was related to career, social, understanding, and enhancement motivation. In contrast, the length of volunteering (short-term vs. long-term involvement) did not show significant differences in motivational profile. Membership in an organisation was associated with a higher level of motivation in values, social, and understanding. Discussion and conclusion: The research results show that patterns of traditional and reflective volunteering styles in the context of the selected variables often overlap, creating hybrid motivational profiles that combine altruism with self-development, social connections, or career benefits. The results may be helpful for organisations in managing volunteers.

Political violence in the 21st century: From historical roots to contemporary challenges
(Państwowa Wyższa Szkoła Zawodowa w Koninie, 2025) Jusko, Peter; Šustr, Jiří; Weihe, Hans-Jørgen Wallin
In the proposed article, we will discuss the issue of political violence, taking into account that this form of action is a global and long-term phenomenon that occurs in all periods and on all continents. This violence is characterized by acts motivated by political or ideological goals that harm individuals, groups or entire social systems. Political violence can take many forms, from assassinations and terrorist attacks to mass state repression, civil wars or vio- lent demonstrations. Its effects extend beyond state borders and can affect international politics and regional stability.

The effectiveness of vocal-rhythmic stimulation methodology in the development of phonemic awareness in children aged 5-6 years
(Cherkas Global University Press : Washington, 2025) Lipnická, Milena; Šebianová, Kristína
The study presents the results of research aimed at verifying the effectiveness of an original method of vocal-rhythmic stimulation designed to develop phonemic awareness in children at the end of preschool education. Using a quantitative research design without a control group, the results of 22 children in a pre-test and post-test were analyzed using subtests from the D.B. Eľkonin test. The results showed improvement in most of the phonemic abilities assessed, especially in syllable analysis, sound isolation, synthesis, and rhyming. Only two children showed a slight decline in performance. The average results showed slightly better scores for girls, but without statistically significant differences between the sexes, confirming the universality of the methodology. Although the level of children's participation in activities did not show a direct correlation with performance, a positive effect of regular and playful stimulation was demonstrated. The research identified several limitations, including the small sample size, the absence of a control group, and organizational influences that may affect the validity of the results. Nevertheless, the research supports the use of the vocal-rhythmic methodology as an effective tool for developing pre-reading literacy and recommends its verification in a larger, longitudinal study focusing on the long-term impact on children's reading success.
